Standard curriculum The curriculum was developed by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as an addition to the existing Basic Electricity and Electronics (BE&E) course. Edison is used by over 900 colleges and universities in the United States and in over 20 countries around the world. Since 1995, over 100,000 instructors have used Edison to teach electricity and electronics to students from elementary to graduate levels. Edison was first released for Macintosh in 1996 and was one of the first digital learning environments for home and academic use. As a digital learning environment, Edison is very flexible, easy to use and allows the instructor and the student to focus on the learning experience. It supports an increasing number of platforms in the future, including Mac OS X, Windows XP, Vista, Linux, Solaris and X11. It is a classic plug-in learning environment, allowing instructors and students to easily build their own interactive labs with modules, labs, and screens. It includes a full manual with many topics, labs, tests and demonstrations, and a digital lab manual with further topics and a tutorial, available for free download in PDF format.
