This year 2023 brought with it a historic celebration of Juneteenth at Afrocan, a vibrant and culturally rich festival that took place in Perry Harvey Park on June 19.

This event, organized by City Festivals was a joyous gathering to honor the,

spirit of emancipation while showcasing the thriving community of black entrepreneurs and young talents. Afrocan 2023 not only commemorated the legacy of Juneteenth but also served as a platform for highlighting black-owned businesses, kidpreneurs, and artists from various creative disciplines. In this blog, we'll take you through the incredible journey of Afrocan 2023.

Honoring the Past:

Afrocan 2023 was not only about celebration but also about remembrance and respect for the past. The festival paid tribute to the memory of a beloved community partner, Ramon, who had recently passed away. This solemn moment brought

the community closer together, emphasizing the importance of unity and support during difficult times. His legacy lived on through the spirit of Afrocan, reminding everyone that the past, present, and future are interwoven.


Village of Dreams:

The heart of Afrocan 2023 was the Village of Dreams, a magical space that featured a diverse array of experiences. Each 'village' was dedicated to a unique aspect of black culture, allowing guests to immerse themselves in an array of activities, including:


1. Sip and Paint: In this village, artists of all ages unleashed their creativity while sipping on refreshing beverages. The Sip and Paint experience allowed attendees to express themselves through art, proving that creativity knows no bounds.


2. Sound Bowl Therapy: For those seeking relaxation and rejuvenation, the Sound Bowl Therapy village offered a unique experience. Participants indulged in the soothing sounds and vibrations of sound bowls, relieving stress and promoting a sense of inner peace.

3. Konpa Dance Class: The rhythmic beats of Konpa dance filled the air, inviting guests to learn this lively and culturally rich dance style. This village celebrated the beauty of African and Caribbean dance traditions, allowing everyone to join in the fun.

Black Fashion Extravaganza:
